Surf Ohio® launches original Longboard Legends Collection wall décor line
Jones´ Rustic Signs hand-crafts limited edition mini-surfboards under new pact – Dayton, OH – November 15, 2011
Surf Ohio® today announced the launch of its Longboard Legends Collection wall décor line, the first in this new category for the brand created under a recently inked deal with Dayton-based Jones´ Rustic Sign Company.
Longboard Legends are solid wood, limited edition 23-inch long miniature surfboards, each adorned with the “Surf Ohio® – Since 1978″ logo and colorfully bold stripe treatments reminiscent of classic longboards from the 1950s and 60s era of the sport.
Hand-crafted, screen-printed and finished in a semi-gloss by Jones´ Rustic Sign Company artisans, each Longboard Legends style is limited to 100, with finished pieces numbered and personally autographed on the back by Surf Ohio® founder and designer Ron Kaplan. A horizontal keyhole slot in the back makes each one ready-to-hang, needing only a nail or screw. Once a particular edition of 100 sells out, its distinctive combination of stripe colors will no longer be produced.
Named in tribute to legendary surf breaks, the initial three styles in the Longboard Legends Collection are the `Malibu´, the ‘Rincon‘, and the `Pipeline´, available only from Surf Ohio® at www.surfohio.com for $45 each plus shipping. A debut-only online special offers any two for $80, or a trio of each style, with matching edition numbers, for only $110 plus shipping.
“We´ve heard the call from our fans to create unique and fun wall decor for a while now,” said Kaplan. “The beautifully crafted mini longboards of this collection are worthy of their legendary namesakes and provide the perfect Surf Ohio® touch to any tiki bar, dorm room, office or beach house.” Additional Longboard Legends Collection editions will follow, and will be sold through various beach lifestyle, collegiate, and home décor retail outlets.
Surf Ohio®, first created by Kaplan in his Ohio University dorm room in 1978 and trademarked in 1987, previously successfully licensed vintage Surf Ohio® artwork to Homage Clothing for the production of apparel and other branded accessories such as beach towels, Frisbees®, can koozies, stickers and knit hats. The pact with Jones´ Rustic Signs for home decor thus marks the second of several anticipated licensing deals into relevant new categories for Surf Ohio®, as the iconic Midwest lifestyle brand expands its product line ahead of its 35th anniversary, celebrated in 2013.
